THE LAW OF INTENTIONALITY: TAKE THE DRIVER’S SEAT!
What if the person you are today is not the person you have to remain?
As I begin sharing my reflections on John C. Maxwell’s 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, I want to start with a lesson that really got me thinking: I am responsible for my own growth.
During one of our sessions, Coach Lorato challenged us with an observation: we often leave our development in the hands of the organisations we work for. We expect our employers to train us, develop us and prepare us for the next level.
But does that mean our growth should stop when the training opportunities stop?
Without realising it, we may be handing over the steering wheel of our personal growth to someone else!
What I love about this book is that it does not just tell you to grow, it provides practical steps to help you become intentional about your growth. There is no need to reinvent the wheel when you have a guide to help you get started. The responsibility is to learn, apply and take action.
Another thing I appreciated was our group discussion. Listening to fellow participants share their experiences and interpretations helped me see the law through different lenses. Sometimes, someone else’s perspective opens your eyes to something you had never considered.
As Coach Lorato often says, “You do not know what you do not know!” goodness, how true!
My personal takeaway. I cannot leave my growth to chance or expect other people to take responsibility for it. I must be deliberate about the person I am becoming and take ownership of the work I need to do on myself.
So, let us start this conversation.
Are we taking responsibility for your own growth, or are you giving that responsibility away to your employers, our circumstances or other people?
Your organisation can create opportunities for you, but you must take ownership of your development.
If this speaks to you, perhaps it is time to explore The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth with PinnaLead.
Every Monday, I will share a lesson, a personal reflection and what I am learning along the way. This is my journey of growth, and I invite you to follow along.
Stop waiting for someone else to drive your growth. Take the driver’s seat!
